I have used at least four different free statistic services over the years, and the best one now available in my humble opinion is from StatCounter.com. They are simple to install and provide a wealth of information. I use StatCounter on an almost daily basis to see who is visiting my website, how long they stay, which pages they visit, what keywords they used, which search engine they used, and more.
Overall, for each site, I can see which are the most popular pages, and, of course, how many page hits, unique visitors, new visitors and return visitors I get.
I can tailor a graph that shows visitors per month, year, or whatever time period I choose.
